*Placement testing: No SAT, ACT, or Accuplacer is required unless a student does not meet the 2.5 GPA minimum for academic core courses, in which case an Accuplacer score may establish eligibility. Not covered by GA Futures: lab/materials fees ($10–$40 per course), malpractice insurance for health programs, and repeat courses after a failure.
Student Application Steps

Students complete two applications: one to GPTC and one through GA Futures for state funding. GA Futures is required at every dual enrollment college in Georgia. Our GPTC application is straightforward — no test scores needed in most cases.

1

Apply to GPTC

Students apply online using their legal name, a personal (non-school) email, and Social Security Number. No dashes in number fields. Select: Dual Enrollment / your selected county / Interdisciplinary Studies / correct semester.

tinyurl.com/ApplyGPTC25 No test scores needed in most cases
2

Submit an Unofficial Transcript

The student or counselor may email an unofficial transcript (GPA must be visible) to DualEnrollment@GPTC.edu. Students using Infinite Campus can find it under “Documents.” Processing takes 1–2 business days; the student receives an acceptance email with next steps.

DualEnrollment@GPTC.edu Counselors can send this too!
3

Parent Completes Their GPTC Portion

When the student submits their GPTC application, a participation agreement is automatically emailed to the parent or guardian to complete. No separate form needs to be sent.

Parent action required
4

Complete the GA Futures Funding Application

Students log in or create an account at gafutures.org, navigate to “My Dual Enrollment Profile,” select GPTC, confirm SSN and date of birth, complete the participation agreement, and submit. Students should note their Dual Enrollment Application ID. A new GA Futures application is required each school year (May–April).

Required every school year Required at every DE college in Georgia
5

Parent Completes GA Futures Portion

After the student submits, parents receive an email to complete their section using the Dual Enrollment Application ID and the student’s date of birth.

Parent action required
6

Counselor Approves Courses in GA Futures

Students work with you to choose courses that fit their graduation plan. You then approve them in GA Futures. GPTC will not register a student without counselor approval in GA Futures — this protects the student’s funding and their path to on-time graduation.

Your action required Approval does not equal registration
7

Student Submits GPTC Registration Request

Once your GA Futures approval is on file, the student submits GPTC’s registration request form. This is the final step before they are officially enrolled for the semester.

Your Role as a Counselor

Approve Courses in GA Futures

Each semester, approve your students’ selected courses in GA Futures. Unapproved courses will not receive state funding and students will not be registered.

📋

Approval vs. Registration

GA Futures approval is not registration. Your approval funds the course; the student must still submit a GPTC registration request form to be officially enrolled.

📄

Course Planning & Transcripts

Help students choose courses that align with graduation requirements and career goals. You may also send us a student’s unofficial transcript on their behalf.

📧

Stay in the Loop on Student Emails

Students are expected to CC their high school counselor any time they contact our Dual Enrollment team by email.

🎓

Accelerated Career Pathways

Eligible students can graduate with a college credential and a high school diploma simultaneously under modified graduation requirements. Ask our team for details.

🧾

Selective Service Reminders

Male students turning 18 during a semester must register for Selective Service to remain eligible for state funding. Please help flag these students early.

Important: Students who withdraw from two or more courses will lose Dual Enrollment funding. Early conversations about course load and student readiness can make a real difference.

Accessibility Services

IEPs and 504 Plans Do Not Automatically Transfer

At the college level, students must self-identify to receive accommodations. GPTC’s Accessibility Services Office reviews each request and supporting documentation to determine what accommodations are reasonable for the student’s dual enrollment course.

Please encourage students with IEPs or 504 Plans to connect with Accessibility Services before their first semester. Early outreach prevents delays in receiving support.

FERPA Reminder: Parents cannot contact professors about grades or coursework without a Student Information Release Authorization on file. Students must advocate for themselves directly. Even with a FERPA waiver, parents cannot make changes to a student’s account, such as adding or dropping courses.
