Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Commissioner Matt Arthur has named Dr. D. Glen Cannon to serve as interim president of Georgia Piedmont Technical College.  He replaces Dr. Jabari Simama, who served from 2012-2018.

“Dr. Cannon will be a tremendous leader for Georgia Piedmont during this time of transition to ensure the college continues its legacy of serving students, business and industry, and the community,” said Arthur.  “TCSG will immediately begin the search for Georgia Piedmont’s next president.”

In mid-April, Commissioner Arthur tapped Dr. Ivan Allen, president of Central Georgia Technical College, to lead an assessment team comprised of system-wide experts in student enrollment, financial aid, finance, and operations to conduct a thorough review of mission-critical aspects of Georgia Piedmont’s operations and make recommendations for improvements. “I thank Dr. Allen for serving admirably as assessment team leader over the past few weeks; he will now return to his post as president of Central Georgia Technical College,” continued Arthur.

No stranger to Georgia Piedmont, Cannon previously served as a vice president of administration at the college.  He later became president of Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phenix City, Alabama, but returned to Georgia in order to serve as the third president of Gwinnett Technical College.  Cannon brings over 30 years of experience in higher education to Georgia Piedmont, having previously held positions in finance, operations and senior management.

An active member of the community, Cannon serves on the board of directors for the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce and the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce.  He also is involved in organizations such as Partnership Gwinnett, the Metro Atlanta Learn4Life initiative, and the Greater North Fulton Talent Coalition.

Cannon earned his bachelor’s degree from West Georgia College (now the University of West Georgia).  He holds a master’s degree from the Stetson School of Business at Mercer University and a doctorate of education from the University of Georgia.  Additionally, Cannon is a certified public accountant (CPA).
