FAQs
- What is Dual Enrollment?
- Dual Enrollment (DE) is an opportunity for Georgia High School Students in 10th-12th grade to take college classes in academic and career-focused programs that will count towards both high school and college graduation. Students in 11th and 12th grade are eligible to take core academic classes. Students in 10th grade are eligible to take CTAE classes only.
- Who is eligible for Dual Enrollment?
- Students in 10th grade with at least a 2.0 GPA are eligible to receive funding for Career Pathways courses. Students in 11th and 12 grade with at least a 2.5 GPA are eligible to receive funding for Academic courses.
- How do I know what classes I can take?
- Always meet with your counselor to discuss your Dual Enrollment courses. Courses must be approved by your counselor in Georgia Futures before you can register.
- Can I change classes?
- If you want to change your classes before the semester begins, meet with your counselor to have your new classes approved. You cannot change classes without counselor approval. After the add/drop period, you cannot change classes.
- What happens if I want to drop or withdraw from a course?
- If you drop a course before the add/drop period ends, the course will not appear on your transcript. If you withdraw from a course after the add/drop period, the course will appear on your transcript as a W and you will not receive funding to take the class again in the future. This also applies to failed classes. Remember to have all schedule changes approved by your counselor.
- Will this affect my high school graduation?
- Yes, many Dual Enrollment classes count as both high school credits and college credits! This means you can graduate high school as expected, and gain college credits at the same time. However, low grades will also affect your high school GPA, and cannot be removed after the add/drop period.
- How do I get my IEP or other accommodation information to GPTC?
- At the college level, students must self-identify in order to receive accommodations. High school accommodations do not automatically transfer to the college. For information about establishing accommodations, please contact the Office of Disability Services. Please be advised that accommodations begin when forms are completed and submitted, along with documentation. Accommodations are not retroactive.
- Is the GPTC calendar the same as my high school?
- GPTC has a calendar that may be different from your high school. Semester breaks, holidays, and teacher in-service days may be different. Even if your high school is closed, you may still have a GPTC class meeting. Please make sure you keep track of the GPTC Academic Calendar and any dates and deadlines posted by your instructors in the class syllabus. Classes may be fully online, meet once a week, or meet multiple times. When looking at classes, make sure you are viewing the meeting times. If you are taking a class on campus, make sure you are factoring in transportation so that you can get to class on time.
