Students seeking disability-related testing or classroom accommodations must first be registered with the Office of Accessibility Services (OAS). Once approved for testing accommodations, students are expected to follow the procedures outlined below to ensure a smooth and efficient testing process. Students must also review and adhere to the Student Responsibilities for Testing policy:

  • Requesting Accommodated Testing
    • Students must submit a testing request at least three (3) business days prior to a regular exam or quiz, and at least two (2) weeks prior to a final exam, or as soon as the final exam schedule is published. Requests submitted after these deadlines may result in delays or limited availability of testing space. Students must schedule exams for the same day and time as their class unless a documented conflict or scheduling accommodation has been approved.
  • Communication and Coordination
    • Students are responsible for communicating directly with their instructors regarding testing arrangements, including confirming test dates, times, and locations. Students should immediately notify OAS if they encounter difficulties coordinating accommodations with an instructor or experience scheduling barriers. Changes to testing appointments (date, time, or location) must be approved in advance by both the instructor and OAS.
  • Arriving for the Exam
    • Students should arrive on time for their scheduled test appointment. If a student arrives more than 15 minutes late, testing time may be reduced or rescheduled at the discretion of OAS staff and the instructor. Students must bring only approved materials (e.g., calculator, notes, formula sheet) as specified by the instructor on the Test Administration Form. All personal items, including phones, smartwatches, and bags, must be stored in the designated area prior to testing.
  • During the Exam
    • Students are expected to follow all testing center rules and maintain academic integrity at all times. Unauthorized materials or actions during testing may result in termination of the exam and a referral to the Office of Student Conduct. Students must remain in the testing area for the duration of the exam unless given permission to leave by OAS staff. Breaks or restroom use, if permitted, must be consistent with the instructor’s guidelines and the student’s approved accommodations.
  • Rescheduling and Cancellations
    • If a student cannot attend a scheduled exam, they must notify OAS and the instructor as soon as possible, ideally at least 24 hours in advance. Repeated no-shows or cancellations may impact the student’s ability to schedule future exams through OAS.
  • Academic Integrity and Conduct
    • The same standards of academic honesty and conduct that apply in the classroom also apply in the testing environment. Cheating, plagiarism, or any attempt to gain an unfair advantage will be reported to the Office of Student Conduct and may result in disciplinary action. OAS reserves the right to end a test session if academic misconduct or policy violations occur.

Options for Test Administration with Approved Accommodations

Students approved for testing accommodations have the following options for test administration:

  • With the Class
At the regularly scheduled test time and location.
Note: Accommodations cannot be guaranteed in this setting unless coordinated in advance with the instructor.
  • With the Instructor or Designated Proctor
At a mutually agreed-upon time and location (e.g., instructor’s office, department space, or available classroom).
  • In the Office of Accessibility Services (Clarkston or Covington Campus)
    At a professor-approved time.
Note: This option is strongly recommended to ensure accommodations are implemented accurately and consistently.

Extended Time and Other Approved Accommodations

If a student elects to take the exam with the class or directly with the instructor, approved accommodations such as extended time, reduced-distraction testing environments, or assistive technology must still be provided. All accommodations must be implemented in accordance with federal law—including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973—as well as Georgia Piedmont Technical College policy.
