Georgia Piedmont Technical College is proud to announce that Dr. Chioma Michaelson, Chair of the Opticianry Program, has been appointed to the Georgia State Board of Dispensing Opticians.
Governor Brian Kemp appointed Michaelson, who was recently sworn in to serve on the board. The board oversees the practice of opticianry and helps protect the health, safety, and welfare of people in Georgia.
“Being appointed and sworn in by Governor Brian Kemp to serve on the Georgia State Board of Dispensing Opticians is both an incredible honor and a significant milestone in my professional career,” Michaelson said.
Michaelson offers the board valuable insight as an educator. At GPTC, she helps students gain the technical skills, hands-on experience, and professionalism they need to serve patients throughout Georgia.
“This appointment allows me to bring a unique perspective by connecting education and regulation, helping ensure that future practitioners are prepared to meet the highest professional standards while supporting the continued growth of opticianry in Georgia,” she said.
Michaelson leads GPTC’s Opticianry program at the Clarkston campus, which is the only one of its kind in the Technical College System of Georgia. Her appointment connects GPTC and its students directly to the standards shaping opticianry in the state and highlights the college’s leadership in training Georgia’s future optical professionals.
“I am deeply thankful for the trust placed in me and look forward to serving the citizens of Georgia and the optical community with integrity and dedication,” Michaelson said.
