Maternal & Child Nursing RNSG 2810

This course provides a comprehensive and holistic approach to healthcare for women, newborns, and children. The course focuses on normal and high-risk pregnancies, growth and development, family dynamics, and common newborn and child disorders. Students will focus on promoting healthy behaviors, managing care in diverse cultural settings, and applying the nursing process in community and acute care settings incorporating client-centered care, teamwork, collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, safety, informatics, professionalism, and leadership. Clinical experiences provide opportunities to implement theoretical concepts and deliver safe, compassionate care. Health promotion and disease prevention, and managing conditions during pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and pediatric care, are integrated throughout the course. The course builds on previous nursing courses, emphasizing critical thinking, patient health teaching, and professional identity. Students will care for clients from diverse backgrounds, addressing biophysical, psychosocial, spiritual, ethical, and cultural needs. Through clinical simulations and inpatient and outpatient experiences, students will apply theoretical principles and provide safe and competent care to women, newborns and children.
