Law Enforcement Academy
Here at the Georgia Piedmont Technical College Law Enforcement Academy we strive to offer the best training and education possible. The Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council and the Technical College System of Georgia implemented a new approach to training Law Enforcement in Georgia in 2008. Since that time we have successfully graduated a number of law enforcement officers from our Basic Mandate program that are currently employed all over the State of Georgia.
The increased training and education provides local agencies with a more qualified and better trained officer. This in turn results in a better officer, and department, serving their community. The Academy serves current employees of law enforcement as well as those motivated individuals who want to begin their law enforcement career prior to being employed.
For those wishing to become Law Enforcement officers our Basic Mandate program is 17 weeks long and increases the training, knowledge, and understanding of the complex issues regarding law enforcement today. Recruits completing this program will gain, in addition to their P.O.S.T. Basic Law Enforcement certification, 42 semester college credits towards an associate’s degree in criminal justice. They will also receive up to 744 P.O.S.T. training hours as opposed to the normal 408. These hours include Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, TASER, OC and ASP Baton training in addition to Basic Mandate.
Law enforcement candidates that meet the criteria may be eligible for student financial aid including the HOPE Grant. Our goal is to produce highly motivated, ambitious, professional officers that serve their agencies and communities to the best of their abilities. Come be a part of our program.
