Programs for High School Students

Georgia Piedmont Technical College collaborates with local public school systems in the College’s four-county service area to provide career pathways not available in the existing high schools, and programs that provide high school students with opportunities to complete college credit courses before they graduate from high school. This partnership between local high schools and Georgia Piedmont Technical College gives students the opportunity to simultaneously work toward completion of the high school diploma and earn a Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC) or Diploma from Georgia Piedmont Technical College.

Options for High School Students
Georgia Piedmont Technical College offers several options for current and graduating high school students. Review the options below to find out which option is right for you.

Dual Enrollment permits students in high school, age 16 and older to enroll in courses at Georgia Piedmont Technical College to earn both college and high school credit. Courses are taught by Georgia Piedmont Technical College instructors, and are offered at the high school and/or the college campus. Students pursuing Dual Enrollment courses are expected to complete a career pathway and/or a Technical Certificate of Credit or Diploma.

Joint Enrollment permits students in high school, age 16 or older to enroll in courses at Georgia Piedmont Technical College for college credit only. Joint Enrollment courses are taught at the college campus, and students may pursue any technical or academic course.

Who is eligible for Dual or Joint Enrollment?

Move On When Ready (House Bill 149) provides eligible students entering 11th or 12th grade, who spent the prior school year in attendance at a public high school in Georgia, the opportunity to attend college full time, and earn credits for both high school graduation and college. Students must meet all state testing requirements, including End of Course Tests and the Georgia High School Graduation tests, and must maintain satisfactory academic progress. Students are eligible to participate in high school competitive and other extracurricular activities as long as their schedules can accommodate practices, games, etc. without interfering with their completion of post secondary course requirements.

Articulation is a partnership between Georgia Piedmont Technical College and the high school system that provides an opportunity to earn college credit, through competency testing, for courses taken in high school that have been evaluated and determined as equivalent to technical college courses.
