MEDIA ADVISORY: GPTC to Host Annual Convocation
Occasion to kick off new academic year will be held at Newton Campus

Newton County - August 15, 2017

Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GPTC) will host its annual convocation to kick off the 2017-18 academic year on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at its Newton campus in Covington.  During the ceremony, Dr. Jabari Simama, president of Georgia Piedmont, will honor an emeritus faculty member.  Additionally, new faculty and staff members will be acknowledged. 

This occasion is one of many festive events the college has scheduled over the next few months to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Newton campus.  In the fall of 1997, the doors opened on the $8.9 million campus, which was the first public post-secondary college in Newton County.   

This is Georgia Piedmont’s fourth annual Fall Convocation.  Please note the event is open to media representatives as well as the general public.
