Ready Mix USA donates Cement-Mixing Truck to GPTC
March 23, 2017
Ready Mix USA signed over a cement mixing truck to Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GPTC) for its Regional Transportation Training Center in Lithonia. The truck will be used to teach individuals the skills required to become cement-mixer truck-drivers.
“I’m pleased Ready Mix USA agreed to donate this cement-mixing truck to our college,” Dr. Jabari Simama, president of GPTC, said. “In a relatively short time, students will be able to learn the skills necessary to land jobs in this high-demand career field. I also thank Westside Works for partnering with us and for their commitment to workforce development for people who reside near the new Atlanta Falcons stadium.”
Cynthia Dorsey Edwards, GPTC’s vice president of economic and community development, Consuelo Godden, director of GPTC’s regional transportation training center, and David Griffin, operations manager for Ready Mix USA, officially signed the documents to transfer ownership of the cement truck to the Georgia Piedmont Technical College Foundation.
GPTC is collaborating with Westside Works, a job-training initiative created by the Arthur M. Blank Foundation, to offer the four-week training program. Westside Works is a long-term neighborhood program focused on creating employment opportunities and job training for residents of the Westside community, including Vine City, English Avenue, and Castleberry Hill.
The truck-driving course will begin in April. Interested students are encouraged to apply now.
