After Submitting Your Application: Next Steps

Once you have completed all the steps necessary for your student loan and you qualify, we will process your student loan and submit the certification (loan origination) to the U. S. Department of Education electronically. If you are not eligible for a student loan or we have a problem processing your loan application, you will receive an e-mail notification that your loan was denied. During peak processing times, it could take up to 4-six weeks to review and certify each loan request.

We cannot exceed your cost of attendance with your financial aid award. Your cost of attendance varies depending on whether you are an independent student or dependent student. You may not be eligible for the full loan amount you request on your application, but we will award as close to that amount as possible.

When your student loan has been processed by Georgia Piedmont Technical College, you will be able to review your award on Banner Web under your “Award Information.” (From the main menu select Financial Aid Information; Award Information; Award by Aid Year; select the current year; select the “Aid Overview” tab.)

Note: Your total financial aid awarded and total loan amount awarded cannot exceed your total cost of attendance.

You may use loan funds to hold your classes; however if you withdraw prior to completing the first 31 days of the term, your loan must be cancelled and you are responsible for any incurred expenses not covered by other aid. The maximum subsidized loan amount for freshman level is $3,500 and for sophomore, it is $4,500. If you have less than 30 semester earned hours in your current major you are considered to be in your 1st year or a freshman.

Note: Your loan amount is subject to change if any of your FAFSA or current award information changes for any reason.

The U.S. Department of Education will send you a Disclosure Statement explaining the interest rate, fees, and anticipated disbursement dates of your loan. This statement will be sent to your email address or your mailing address depending on which method you selected at www.studentloans.gov when completing your Master Promissory Note (MPN).

Note: Please note the dates on the disclosure statement are not the dates the money is wired to the college.

After we receive the wire transfer of your loan money, Georgia Piedmont Technical College must verify that you are still enrolled in at least six credit hours and that you are still enrolled in an eligible program of study. Funds are refunded to you, by check, on the scheduled refund date each term. Please keep your address and email address current with the Admissions Office to avoid delays in receiving correspondences.

If you are still eligible, we will post the money to your account. Please note that if your financial aid is suspended/ terminated, or if you drop below half-time enrollment (six credit hours) during your student loan period, your student loan will be cancelled. You will owe any funds received even if you do not receive the entire student loan.

Note: Repayment begins six (6) months after you withdraw, graduate, or drop below half-time enrollment.

Please contact the Office of Student Financial Services if you withdraw, graduate, or drop below six hours from school so we may advise you regarding your student loan status. All students will be required to complete Exit Loan Counseling if any of the following occur (1) Withdraw (2) Graduate; or (3) Drop below six hours.  Loan funds can impact your work study eligibility.

Your loan amount is subject to change if any of your FAFSA or current award information changes for any reason. We encourage you to borrow conservatively and only borrow the amount that you need.
