1. What is the COMPASS Test?
    COMPASS is a computerized Reading, Writing and Math placement test. This test is designed to “place students in appropriate classes” and “connect them to the resources they need to achieve academic success” (ACT.org).

  1. Is there a time limit on the COMPASS?
    No, there is no time limit on the COMPASS. You may take as much time as you need; it will not affect your scores. On average the test takes two to three hours.
  1. Can I find out what questions I answered incorrectly?
    No, the test is self-scoring, you will not be told if your answers are correct or not.
  1. How will the COMPASS Placement Test be scored?
    You will receive a score for each section of the test: Writing, Reading and Math (Pre-Algebra or Algebra)

  1. Is the test on the computer?
    Yes, the COMPASS is a computerized test. The entire test (reading, writing and math) is multiple choice and is taken with the keyboard and the mouse.

  1. What do I need to bring with me on the day of the test?
    A photo ID (for incoming students your driver’s license or a valid government issued photo ID)
  1. When will I receive my test results?
    You will receive your results upon completion of the test .
  1. When will I be able to see an advisor?
    On the same day that you take your COMPASS you will see an advisor.
  1. What do I do if I miss my appointment?
    If you miss your appointment, please .return to the COMPASS Scheduling Request page and reschedule yourself for another date and time. Please be mindful that appointments are made based on availability. If you miss your appointment, another appointment will be given as seating is available.
  1. Can I take the COMPASS Test at Georgia Piedmont Tech although I’m not a student there?
    Yes, the Assessment Center at Georgia Piedmont Technical College testing services for student who will be attending other institution. See the Proctoring Services page.
